How to upgrade your land plot NFT

The NFT upgrade allows you to enhance your existing land plot NFT by adding additional metadata, Assets like multimedia, and contextual details. While the core land plot attributes remain immutable, you can personalize your NFT by adding:
A secondary name
A rich description
Images, videos, or audio files
Real-world data points using custom attributes (key-value pairs)
This process increases the uniqueness, utility, and storytelling power of your NFT.
Please note: The primary metadata associated with your land plot—such as its location and ID—remains unchanged. The upgrade adds extended metadata layered on top, providing richer context without modifying the original identity of your NFT.
To upgrade your land plot NFT, click on ‘My Land Plots’ under the section ‘Explore’ in the top menu on the left.
A new window will appear, showing an overview of your purchased land plots. Now, select the land plot you want to upgrade. Clicking the arrow on the right under ‘NFT Land plot’ opens a menu with more information of this NFT land plot, such as Asset Name, Policy ID, Country, Place, Hex ID, Latitude/Longitude, Publisher, and URL.
To upgrade the information, click the purple ‘Update’ button under ‘NFT Land plot’. A new window will open where you can customize your NFT land plot. Alternatively, you can click on ‘NFT Upgrade’ next to the ‘Description’ tab in the menu bar.
Here, you can make all the customizations needed to make your NFT land plot even more attractive. The benefit of upgrading your NFT is that it increases its utility, visibility, perceived value, and storytelling potential. It is ideal for showcasing a business, promoting a location-based event, telling a personal or historical story, or building community engagement.
Next to the land plot ID, you will see the blockchain your land plot is minted. You can also view your NFT land plot directly on the blockchain. To do so, click the ‘On Chain’ button, and you will be redirected.
In the next step, under ‘NFT – Upgrade Service’, add your customizations to enhance your land plot NFT, making it more unique and valuable.
The ‘AI Image / Video’ button will soon be available as a new feature for the ‘NFT - Upgrade Service’. With the AI Image/Video Generator, you will be able to transform text into high-quality visuals. It uses advanced machine learning to generate images from descriptions. The ‘AI Text Generator’ will also be available soon. This feature allows you to create content using a transformer-based Large Language Model (LLM).
First, upload images, audio, or videos under the heading ‘Asset Management’. Select a main asset that best represents your NFT. Make sure you do not violate any rights with the uploaded content; avoid using copyrighted material from sources like Google. This means no copy and paste.
Let us take the example of a land plot NFT that is intended to depict the history of Alexanderplatz. For this purpose, an image is created using artificial intelligence that illustrates what Alexanderplatz may have looked like around the year 1805, at the time of its early development.
Under ‘Secondary Name’, enter a creative or descriptive name for your NFT. This could be a nickname, theme, or brand title that helps your land plot stand out. In our example, it would be ‘Alexanderplatz 1805’. This field is optional.
Under the field ‘Co-Publisher’, enter your name, nickname, or team name as a co-publisher of this NFT. This could be just you, or a group of collaborators, co-creators, or partners who have contributed to its value and story. In our example, it is ‘BerlinExpert’.
Now, create a ‘Secondary Description’ that highlights the significance of the location, its cultural context, or your personal vision. You can include extra details, historical facts, or a creative story to enrich your NFT. This adds depth, context, and meaning to your digital asset, making it more compelling and valuable. If the NFT is on the Cardano blockchain, the ‘Cardano Metadata Description Preview’ will show how the description will appear on the Cardano NFT. The ‘Secondary Description’ field is optional.
In the next step, you need to add key-value attributes to your NFT land plot. Attributes allow you to include extra real-world details about your NFT in a structured format using key-value pairs. These additional facts help tell the story and highlight the uniqueness of your NFT location.
The ‘Key’ (Property Name) refers to the type of characteristic or trait you want to define for your NFT. For real-world locations, these traits could describe factual or unique information about the place (e.g., ‘Location Name’, ‘Exact Position’, ‘Opening Year’, ‘Number of Visitors’, ‘Famous Landmark’).
The ‘Value’ (Property Value) is the specific detail or fact associated with the key you have added (e.g., ‘Sydney Opera House’, ‘Lat. -33.8568, Lon. 151.2153’, ‘1973’, ‘10.6 Million Visitors Annually’, ‘UNESCO World Heritage Site’).
In our example, we have added four key-value attributes: Location Name, Description, Year of Naming, Exact Position.
Clicking the purple ‘Continue’ button takes you to a summary of your NFT upgrade.
Click ‘Continue’ again to proceed. A new window will open with the purchase process.
Each NFT upgrade requires a fee in Smart Credits. If you do not have any Smart Credits yet, click ‘Buy Credits’ in the top-left menu. For step-by-step instructions, refer to the ‘Buy Credits’ section in this FAQ.
Before completing the purchase, you must agree to the ‘Terms and Conditions’. Finally, click the pink ‘Checkout and Submit’ button to finish the process.
Now, you will see a message indicating that your order is being processed.
The NFT metadata is being updated on the blockchain, which may take some time. You can view the current upgrade status on-chain under ‘Notifications’. To do this, click on the pink bell icon in the top-right corner of your profile. A window will open with the detailed information.
Please note: It may take up to 48 hours for the data to appear live on secondary markets, portals, or marketplaces, depending on their refresh cycles. On the blockchain, the update is immediate upon successful completion; however, visibility timing may vary by platform and is beyond our control.
To make your NFT land plot upgrade truly stand out, use high-quality, original media files, tell a compelling and concise story, and enrich your NFT with real-world facts using attributes. Be sure to credit all contributors in the ‘Co-Publisher field’ and select a strong ‘Main Asset’ that visually represents your plot effectively.
You can update or remove content after upgrading your NFT. Each upgrade is a one-time blockchain transaction, meaning the metadata from that specific upgrade is permanently stored. However, you can perform additional upgrade transactions in the future to further enhance or modify your NFT’s metadata. Just remember: once an upgrade is submitted and confirmed, that version is immutable; so make sure each upgrade is finalized before submission.
